ENG 281: Final One-on-One Meetings

After your tutorial half-group’s final presentation, you are required to attend one last meeting with your TA — one on one, for twenty minutes, on Zoom. (A few weeks prior, your TA will work with you to schedule that meeting.)

Bring one paragraph of your own writing (no more than 400 words) — from any class, or any other scholarly context — for your TA to read through with you. Ensure that your writing is a very good example of all of the 12 Criteria we discuss in ENG 281; if it isn’t, edit it ahead of time.

At the meeting, your TA will read through the paragraph with you, and ask you questions about how the paragraph took shape, focusing especially on your own writing process. Your TA will offer advice both on the paragraph itself and on the process of writing more generally.

You can earn up to 10/10 points at this final meeting (but your TA will only figure out that final number at the end of the week’s meetings — you won’t be assigned your grade at the meeting).

If your TA comes away from your meeting convinced that you have developed a robust, sensible writing practice that will allow you to grow continually as a writer, then your TA will award you at least 5/7 points at the end of your meeting; your TA can make that judgement based on their full experience of working with you (rather than just what you demonstrate at the meeting itself).

If the paragraph you bring to read with the TA is especially good, or if it shows truly remarkable improvement from work you showed the TA in Office Hours earlier in term, you can earn the full 7/7 points.
